The trials and tribulations of deciding to adopt
Posted Thursday, January 26, 2006 8:28:04 PM by Rose Martins

Deciding whether or not to adopt a baby is a huge emotional and stressful decision. The adoption process is not easy and can sometimes result in disappointment and leave you disillusioned. Baby adoptionGenerally, the couple is required to undergo councelling before being permitted to adopt a baby.

Information regarding baby adoption is vast, and the couple should review their options carefully. There are adoption agencies to assist the parents and handle all the legalities, and many books that the adoptive parents can read, that will help them get an idea of what to expect during the adoption process.

If the baby that is up for adoption, is currently living abroad, adoption authorities will carefully study pictures of the baby, along with the baby's medical file. It is virtually impossible to determine 100% if the baby is healthy or not.

The pictures are not always clear and the medical information is not always accurate. If the adoption authorities announce that the baby appears to be healthy, the adoption process can proceed.

Uterus transplants could let women without wombs bear kids
Posted Wednesday, January 17, 2007 2:46:30 PM by Blog57 Team
Eggs, sperm and a uterus. All are needed to make a baby, and the first two have long been donated to achieve pregnancy. Now doctors say the womb can be donated, too. A New York hospital plans to offer the nation's first uterus transplants to enable women who lack a womb because of cancer treatment or other problems to bear children. The wombs would come from just-deceased donors. Once a uterus is transplanted, it would be removed after the recipient gives birth so she would not have to continue to take anti-rejection drugs The hospital's president warned women not to get false hopes because a transplant is not expected ''any time in the near future.'' ....

Madonna defends baby adoption in interview

Madonna yesterday accused David Banda's birth family of abandoning him, as she launched a fresh defence against criticisms of her adoption of an African baby. A week after an Oprah Winfrey show appearance in which she blamed the media for negative publicity, the star turned her fire against the baby's father. In an interview with Kirsty Wark on BBC2's Newsnight, she said: "I never met a granny and I was told ... that from the day that he was left in the orphanage he was not visited by any extended family members and that's really why I became interested in him. If someone had said to me, 'Oh, his dad comes every week or his granny visits on a regular basis and he's well looked after,' I would not even have given it another thought." ....

Madonna is pleased she has enraged so many people by adopting a Malawian baby. The 48-year-old singer has admitted she used to be controversial for the sake of it, but is delighted with the hysteria surrounding her adoption of 13-month-old baby David because it has been sparked by a good deed. She revealed in an interview with Time magazine: "There is a part of me that is secretly enjoying pissing people off, because I know that when you're pissing people off you're often doing the right thing. "What I hope I'm doing better now than I used to do is picking the right battles to fight, and not just being provocative for the sake of being provocative." Madonna also believes the average person doesn't care that she has adopted a Malawian baby and that the media have created all the controversy....

Surrendered baby on track to adoption

SAN BERNARDINO -- Baby Jane Doe, the tot who began her life seemingly unwanted, will soon have a permanent home of her own. The infant, who was surrendered to St. Bernardine Medical Center's emergency medical personnel at the beginning of last month, has been placed in foster care while her case wends its way through the system toward her eventual adoption. The baby was dubbed Janie by nurses who cared for her during her weeklong hospital stay after being dropped off by a young mystery man. She was reportedly doing well when handed over to Child Welfare Services workers to go to her foster home on Oct. 16. She remained in the neonatal intensive-care unit during her stay at St. Bernardine because she was slow to learn to feed from a bottle. "We didn't want to release her until she's feeding really well on her own," said hospital spokeswoman Kimberly VandenBosch....

Adoption Anger

The latest celebrity criticism of Madonna's adoption of Malawian baby David Banda has come from loud mouth chat show host Sharon Osbourne, who has compared the process to buying “a Louis Vuitton handbag". Osbourne wailed; “It is a crock of s***". If she wants to help the kid she should have got the father a little trade going, a fruit stand or something. She bought a baby for God's sake". Back in Malawi the child's father has spoken out in favour of the Queen of Pop. He put rest to claims that he had only wanted the singer to keep David for a brief period by stating, “I gave my blessing to Madonna. She and her husband promised he would have a better life. I'd like to tell Madonna not to worry about what people are saying. I wish her all the best raising my son". Not to be outdone by Madge, Angelina has reportedly decided to bring an Indian child “back for Christmas"....

Outcry over adoption stuns Madonna: report

Madonna has admitted to being stunned by the outcry over her adoption of a Malawian baby boy. The 48-year-old US singer, who has had a knack of ruffling feathers throughout her career, has told People magazine she did not expect the level of criticism levelled at her since the adoption. "I expect to be given a hard time about many of the things I do," Madonna told the magazine in an interview to be published today. "I know they are provocative and I prepare myself, but I did not expect the media, the government or any human rights organisations to take a stand against me trying to save a child's life." Madonna was granted an interim order to adopt David Banda, a poor farmer's son, by a high court in Malawi last week. But the Human Rights Consultative Committee, an umbrella grouping of 67 local rights groups in Malawi, went to court on Monday to challenge the order allowing Madonna to adopt the boy....

LUBBOCK, Texas An Abilene woman today pleaded guilty in an adoption scam in which each of three families thought they were going to get her baby. A federal judge in Lubbock ordered a presentence investigation for 26-year-old Tawana Lynn Howard. She faces up to 20 years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine after pleading guilty to wire fraud. Prosecutors say Howard in 2004 defrauded three adoption agencies and three sets of potential adoptive parents. Authorities say Howard never told them she was dealing with more than one entity. Howard in late 2004 informed the families and the agencies that she was no longer offering her unborn child for adoption. The victims lost nearly 35-thousand dollars, including legal and administrative fees. No sentencing date has been set....

With love to Baby John Doe

Last week, we read the heartbreaking story of a newborn baby boy who was left at a Greeley fire station. At first, folks were upset at the thought of this tiny life being dropped off in a tackle box, left unattended, in hopes someone at the station would answer the doorbell in time. It does clutch at our hearts. And we are so grateful to heroes like the firefighters at Station 7 who bravely opened the tackle box (Was there a bomb inside? A hazardous material?) and immediately began tending to the little fellow while waiting for paramedics arrived. Under the watchful care of the staff at North Colorado Medical Clinic the baby remained anonymous to the outside world, and we can only surmise that Weld County Social Services has now placed the boy (Does he have a name yet?) in the tender arms of foster parents pending his adoption....
