How functional are your baby's clothes?
Posted Monday, January 30, 2006 11:04:16 AM by Rose Martins

Your baby's clothes might look really cool and cute on the hanger, and once you've finally got them all on, but it's often a frustrating ordeal to dress a baby, especially when they're a little older and hate to lie still. One designer decided to combat the "let's get baby dressed" issue, and created a range of unique, designer baby clothes that appear to be layered, but is actually just one piece.

Baby clothesIt's the baby outfit that looks really cool and cute, and saves all the hassles of dressing your baby. There is more to baby clothes than just hip, cool and soooooo cute. Baby clothes need to be functional. Changing a diaper should not send the mother into a frenzy. Baby clothes should have easy openings, like snaps or zips, but should not contain any parts or pieces that could be dangerous to the baby.

It's also important that the fabrics used to make baby clothes, be soft and easy on the baby's new skin. Natural fabrics are the best choice in undergarments, and the baby's clothes should also be comfortable for the baby. One can often find great deals at discount baby stores. Babies grow so fast and wear their clothes for such a short period of time, that it's sometimes a pity to spend a fortune on a designer wardrobe for your baby.

Baby's also make a mess, especially when they're just learning to eat or start playing in the sandpit at the park. Baby's clothes should therefore be easily washable and it's probably best if they are tumbledrier friendly.

Pastels with a purpose
Posted Thursday, February 01, 2007 2:46:23 PM by Blog57 Team
Say the word "pastel," and people tend to think of a soft color, a spectrum of pale blues, pinks and yellows that work well with baby clothes and sugary greeting cards. But in the world of art, the word refers to a chalky stick, and when it is in the hands of Riva Sweetrocket, there is nothing particularly soft or sugary about it. "I picked up a box of pastels at a yard sale and started using them," said Sweetrocket, whose large-scale, bold paintings are on view now in two exhibitions. "I fell in love with the color. You don't have to use any additional medium. You pick it up and you are rolling. The colors are so dramatic, they drew me in." And they draw in viewers, in works that tend to include surreal situations and subjects caught in mysterious moments: three women, for instance, in poses that indicate varying states of acceptance; a dog hanging from one leg and stretching toward an orchid, while another dog sits nearby; or a giant rose sharing space with two dice and a pair of giraffes, its petals appearing as seductive as velvet in a mix of near photo-realistic renderings and seductive surfaces....

Tabitha, a boutique that carries high-end maternity clothing and baby clothes for children up to 12 months, opened Monday at 1047 Swarthmore, between Village Books and the incoming Andana Shoes and Accessories. 'It's maternity clothing, but you can really wear everything even when you're not pregnant,' said owner Carly Kamerman, 21. In fact, she was modeling her own merchandise on Tuesday'stylish knit gauchos and a long-sleeved top. Kamerman, a West Hollywood resident, has transformed the 800-sq.-ft. store (formerly occupied by Emerson-LaMay Cleaners) into a bright yellow shabby-chic shop with chandeliers and built-in shelving. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Britney Spears has named her second baby son Jayden James -- and that, finally, is official. The September 12 birth certificate, filed with Los Angeles officials this week, was the latest twist in the rumor and secrecy that marked the arrival of the once publicity-hungry pop star's second baby. Not only was the birth at a Los Angeles hospital never officially announced by Spears or her husband Kevin Federline, but sources close to the couple led the world's media to believe that the boy had been named Sutton Pierce. For weeks beforehand, the tabloid media was sure the former teen pop sensation was expecting a girl. Celebrity magazines had Spears stocking up on pink baby clothes and reported she planned to name the child Jamilyn after her younger sister Jamie and her mother Lynne....

Washington, Oct 21 (ANI): It looks as though pop queen Madonna is now planning to adopt a baby girl after recently adopting her 1-year-old Malawian son David. According to inside reports, an assistant from Madge's camp called the high-end baby boutique 'Petit Tresor' in Los Angeles and ordered over 7200 dollars worth of clothes for a boy and a girl. While it is quite understood, for whom the boy's clothes are, the 'Material Girl' has left everyone puzzled over the girl's clothes. The order included onesies, pajamas and cashmere cardigans for a 12-month-old boy, as well as girly sweater sets, pink shoes with cherries on them, and a pink linen dress, reports TMZ.com. A source has revealed that the items were all shipped to Madge's London home and should reach her by early next week....

Babys got bag

WALLET. KEYS. Mobile phone. Makeup kit. These are essentials women carry with them every day. But once a baby enters the picture, the load doubles -- even triples. Milk. Baby bottles. Pacifiers. Diapers. Baby clothes. Baby wipes. Bibs. Rattle. The list goes on and on. But theres good news for moms -- and even dads. Thanks to Baby Couture, lugging around baby stuff is no longer synonymous to carrying bags printed with bears and balloons. The idea stemmed from one mothers needs. Charlene Kang, owner of the Baby Couture line, had a difficult time looking for a bag when she first had a baby. I could not find a bag that I would personally want to carry. I ended up buying a diaper bag from an expensive overseas brand, which my husband protested about, at first, she says....

The early members of the 103-year-old Soquel Odd Fellows Lodge were a wild and woolly crew and William Penberthy has collected some wild and woolly tales about them, involving such memorabilia as horse manure, dead dogs and the only woman ever to join the International Order of Odd Fellows. Soquel Lodge 137 was instituted on July 10, 1867 with Thomas M. Davis, D.J. Cummins, Henry Bischel, Francis Rabel and S.F. Grover as charter members.
